Green Bottom, Gloucestershire and Forest of Dean mailing list

There is no News Group (if you don't know what that is, do a Google search) for general Forest of Dean (or even gloucestershire) matters and the only forum is for FoD genealogy. So here is a mailing list for such Gloucestershire and Forest matters. What is a mailing list?

The Green Bottom mailing list (chat@greenbottom.org) is open to all residents (and non-residents) of Gloucestershire to discuss matters of mutual interest. As such it is a mailing list without any defined subject: chat as you will!

However it is a list that allows plain text only: any email sent to it with either html or other attachment will not be accepted.

Subscription

To join the list you need to follow a few simple steps (which are very effective at keeping spammers off the list!):

To subscribe
send an email to chat+subscribe@greenbottom.org.
The email ideally should be empty: subject and body contents are ignored (so there's no point in explaining why you want to join the list!). In particular, it won't work unless it's plain text - so make sure html is turned off.
Please confirm.
You will get back a "Please confirm your request" email
Confirmation.
You reply to this email. The address to which this will request you reply is something such as
chat+confsub-124fe5534995602d-youremail=yourdomain.com@greenbottom.org
where
- 124fe5534995602d is a random number generated by the list handler on the server.
- youremail=yourdomain.com is your own email address, but with the @ sign replaced by =.
It is very important that you check that your email program responds to the correct address here: some programs break the reply address at the +, - or = sign. This will not work!
Final confirmation.
If all goes well, you will receive back an email saying "Welcome to the Green Bottom Mailing list." You are now free to post to the list.
